Overland Park is quickly becoming an overcrowded, overdeveloped and overrated place to live.

As a 32 year resident of Overland Park, KS, I have seen a lot of changes in the quality of life offered in this city. In the past, OP was an attractive, community based place to live, proud of the fact that they were nicknamed “the city of trees”. All of that has changed in the last 10 years, due primarily to an out of control, permissive attitude towards apartment development. Regard for the environment is non-existent, and even the designated open space areas are being turned into mega developments (i.e. the arboretum). Density, noise pollution and stormwater runoff have become serious issues. A viable masterplan for the cities development is unreliable, hence high density rezoning is occurring everywhere. For the most part, city government is unresponsive to citizen’s concerns. With so much potential, it’s a shame to see the direction the city is going. But if you like huge, high density, high rise apartment developments in every neighborhood, OP is the place for you!
