Through my eyes, living in Gladewater.

My mother and stepfather moved my sister and I out of the Dallas area when I was 12. Early 1980’s. Mostly because people were starting to behave crazy and the cocaine and other drugs were just everywhere. So we moved to Hawkins TX. A one redlight town . Like 3200 was the population. My ancestors are from this eastern Texas area. My grandmother went to high school in Mineola. I finished Highschool in Hawkins. I left East Texas . Moved to Dallas TX., Denver CO., Chicago IL., Pensacola FL., San Diego CA. I’ve spent time all over the United States. Back in 2008 I met somebody I couldn’t live without, we got married and I’ve been in Gladewater TX. ever since. Raising my two daughters here. My point is, I’m glad I did come back here to raise my kids. Stress levels are lower in Gladewater TX. Small town of 6000 plus. Grade School is perfect size for your kids so they’ll get the one on one attention. Crime levels are super low considering the crazy times we live in. Town is like 15 miles west of Longview and 20 plus miles north of Tyler. Gladewater even has an airport and a famous river runs though the town called the Sabine River. Gladewater is the small town cliché. Now finding work that you want to do or getting ahead in life or thinking if you start a business here that one day you’ll become be a millionaire, forget that thought. Your in the wrong place for that kind of thinking. Things move super slow here and they keep it that way. Although with more people moving to the area, things are expanding and growing. People here are here because they want to get away from all the congestion of almost everywhere else like Dallas or even Longview. The oil and medical business are some of the major players in the area and with Gladewater situated between two major cities. You get to enjoy semi-country living and still having access to needful city things. Like employment or Wal-Mart and things like that.
